Friend or foe?

Professional photographers come in two shades. There are those who won’t talk to other professionals, and if they do they can rarely be civil. To them, other photographers are the enemy.

The second shade is a much brighter crowd. Brighter both in outlook and in intelligence. They will happily talk to other photographers (even direct competitors), share information, give and take advice, share a beer, pass on business (it happens a lot) and (when an emergency occurs) step up and help out.

I should have been in a church in Ireland yesterday photographing a wedding. Instead, I was in a church in Australia saying goodbye to my sister, who died of cancer a couple of days ago after what can only be described as a monumental 9-year fight with the disease. The illness won out eventually, but sis gave it a hell of a bloody nose I can tell you.

There is no way I could have attended her funeral had it not been for a friend who was willing to step in and cover the three weddings that I had booked for the last few days.

Donagh Glavin is a talented photographer and a true gentleman. His site is over here - check it out.

Cheers, Donagh.
